Lunch Sack Seeds

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.  Galatians 6:10

As a parent, God has given me tangible opportunities.  Three of them, actually.   And they have names:  Grant, Ethan and Luke.

Three opportunities.  Three little hearts.  Three developing minds. Three entrusted opportunities given us in order to sow Eternal seeds multiple times a day.

Our own household of faith.

And even though I feel many days are just shy of 48-hours-long, the years are short.

And the opportunity I have to pour the Love of Christ into my children will change.

As used here in Galatians 6,O means a “a measure of time.  A fixed, definite, opportune or seasonable time. A limited period.”

The three little rascals under my roof are only here for a “limited period of time.”

My measure is fixed.

God knows the they will back out of our driveway for college.  He sees the wedding invitation and knows the little girl whose arm will lock with theirs as they wave and walk down the aisle.  God knows how limited my opportunity is.  He knows every day ordained for them.  And for us.

A seasonable time.

With all of that said, I am asking God to show me creative ways to seize my numbered days and sow more of Him into the hearts of my children.

I’ve prayed and asked and He has led me to one thing in particular.  The power of a lunchbox.  Yes, it is amazing what God can do through those insulated sacks!  I have shared before that my Ethan (age 6) is very forthcoming about his preferences at lunch time.  He loves his sandwiches in certain shapes and he wants a love note from mom.  {No guesswork with this kid!}

  Its name?    The idea is to intentionally sow little seeds of faith each week into their lunch bag.  The boys may think they are getting an encouraging word from mom, but all the while, I am feeding them the Bread of Life.

One little note at a time.

For each week I will ask,

This verse is bread for my Grant (9).  The Type A student in my home needs to remember that striving for A’s in his own effort brings stress, not success.

Commit your work to the Lord and your plans will succeed.  Proverbs 16:3  

Commit your test to the Lord.  Commit your reading to the Lord.  Commit your essay to the Lord.  The Lord brings us success!  God’s strength is made perfect in Grant’s weakness.  I pray he remembers this truth when anxiety strikes him.  When the test paper lies face down on his desk.

And my little Luke who is four.  His little seed will look different.  His bread should be tasty to his tiny palette.  And what better way than to reinforce his growing interest in the Alphabet but to send him a letter matched with a Biblical Truth!

This is our first one!  A is for ALIVE!  Jesus is Alive!  Before this week is over, he will have heard this from me numerous times!

I pray he knows this life-changing truth even better than his Alphabet!
