Blogging like its 2003

WordPress (this platform) began in 2003.
I remember those early days of “blogs” where friends would post musings and mundane moments of everyday life for friends to read. Baby pictures and family vacations. An occasional deep thought about something they had read of maybe a documentation of a mission trip.
I really enjoyed those days of early blogging.
I remember the day I started this blog in 2010. It felt like a huge moment. Me posting my own reflections and even uneventful days as a young mom of toddlers felt vulnerable, yet exciting. This screen offered a space to reflect on God’s activity in my life and in the growing years of ministry and motherhood mayhem.
Enter the advent of Facebook. 2007ish maybe? I believe it was the slow fading of the bloggers era. Why read a blog post when you can track a friend’s family and every thought through status updates and wall feeds?
Blogs seemed to have lost their purpose.
Well. I want to make a case for blogs again.
And take them back for their original intent.
I do appreciate the rise of social media. It allows a connection that no other platform can compare. But I miss the days of email notifications telling me that my dear friend has a new post (and, mind you, it wasn’t about brand marketing nor was it highly professional). It was just a pretty screen with less-than-perfect-pictures uploaded of their lives. Kids. Vacations. Thoughts and reflections of something they are learning.
A blog post’s original roots lie in the desire to connect and communicate in a personal and authentic way.
So hi.
This is me desiring to connect and communicate in a personal and authentic way – again.
It’s not fancy.
I haven’t updated my WordPress in over a decade. Granted, at some point I will update the vibe, but there is a rebellious spirit in me that wants to keep it a little out of date!
A little less-than-perfect blog just to say – I am a little less-than- perfect, too.
A little dated. And not that fancy.
Aren’t we all? I mean… does anyone grow weary of photo edits, filters and making things perfectly “postable”?
I. Just. Want. To. Post.
So this is your warning. This is a less than perfect blog. A little dated and unfancy.
But so am I.
On that…. stay tuned for blogs about nothing and everything. Deep thoughts on God. A deeper dive in my favorite Scripture. Desires in my heart. And some days an update on a pointless trip to TJ Maxx.
Everything. And Nothing. Everyday life.
To connect with you and communicate in a personal and authentic way.
Here is a little glimpse into our evening of Christmas. Apparently, opening gifts, eating an abundance of Christmas breakfast and homemade pizza for dinner will wear a group out. Even the dog. I savored this sweet moment. I love my boys… men.
With that, I will leave you with this passage and a gift.
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. Philippians 4:6-7 The Message.
I am a written prayer type of gal. I always have been. I think my first journal dates back to my middle school years. So coming to understand that Paul encourages readers to write out their prayers in a “petition” has always been an easy ask. I feel Christians read over this detail too often. We are literally being instructed here to write out “specific requests” to God… SO THAT we will find peace.
This new year, instead of making a list of Resolutions, I am making a list of Petitions.
I’m letting “petitions and praises shape my worries into prayers…”! I did this last year and oh what a joy to watch God fulfill my heart’s desires. I want to share my Petition for 2025 with you – just incase you’d like to do the same!
Click here to grab yours. Spend the next few days praying and writing out your deepest requests. And when you do, GIVE THANKS! With prayer, petition and THANKSGIVING the peace of God will guard your heart and mind!! Yes please!
Love to you all!
