The Practice of Simplicty

On a summer day in 2021, the day was marked on my calendar to spend in solitude with Jesus. A friend of mine has a beautiful pool and I semi-sorta invited myself over to sit beside of it for the afternoon. Of course she didn’t mind.
I just know me… if I plan a day of solitude with the Lord at home… the laundry, dishes, and all the to-dos are so noisy. So competitive.
But!! They have no voice at a friend’s pool!
As I sat in the lounge chair, journal, pen and Bible in lap… The Holy Spirit prompted it to open to 1 Thessalonians 4:11. Paul says, “Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before.”
Oh the wrestle inside of me.
So do tell, Paul. How does a mom of three teens, building a business, busy with ministry, caring for the elderly, fighting the uphill battle of Instagram/Facebook/Amazon/Spotify/Podcasts/Consumer Culture actually live a QUIET LIFE today!?
Well. We make it our GOAL.
Note: I am a certified-card-carrying GOAL SETTER. Give me a list of boxes to check off and I am your girl!
So how fitting an invitation…. “make it my ambition to lead a quiet (or at least, quiet-er) life.”
And so… since that summer afternoon sitting beside my friend’s pool, I have done just that.
And the past three years have taught so much.
Thankfully, all we need to learn this is woven in the words of Scripture. Jesus is The Way, right? In all the ways.Simplicity being one.
His life was the path of the easy yoke. So what better road to follow.
This being said, I would be HONORED for you to join me for a four week pilot program on the Practice of Simplicity. Though I am FAR from perfecting this life… (I still find myself at my wits end with the worries of the world) I have learned and grown tremendously. And most importantly I now have learned practices that get me back into the presence of God and out of the chaos… quicker!
With this said, read the below information. Pray and see if there is an invitation there for you…..
Friend, what would it be like to intentionally arrange your life around God and move away from the frantic pace of culture and its drive for accumulation?
This sounds amazing in theory but harder in reality. Although we LOVE GOD… we often spend more time concerned about what we wear that day, the new car we want, or that appliance that needs to be fixed.
We all agree that material things don’t make us happier but we still find ourselves sucked into the idea that more is better.
“Simplicity, Richard Foster says, ” is an inward reality that results in an outward lifestyle. Both are necessary. It is an inward reality of single-hearted focus upon God and His Kingdom. Which results in an outward lifestyle of modesty openness and unpretentiousness and which disciplines our hunger for status, glamour and luxury. “
Join us for a four week journey into a deeper life….moving away from complexity and superficiality and towards what Jesus called “purity of heart.” Seeking first God’s Kingdom and trusting the rest will be added.
The practice of Simplicity is the way of Jesus… and we, as believers, are all invited to follow.
