A Journey Through Ephesians… 1:15-18

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people. Ephesians 1:15-17

I had not been meeting with my mentor Debbie very long, maybe less than one year, when she showed this scripture to me.

I was a young mom in my 20s and wanted to learn. I wanted to know the Bible like she knew the Bible. I wanted to understand Biblical history and I wanted to understand God in the present. I wanted to know what it meant to disciple under Jesus and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I wanted to pray with power and fervor. I wanted my faith to please the Lord.

I was eager. So she sent me here. Ephesians 1:17-18.

“Before you begin your time in the Word,” she said, “pray this. Ask the Father for a Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. Pray the eyes of your HEART would be enlightened so you can know the hope to which you’ve been called.”

Oh my Debbie. She’ll just never know how her words stick. Almost two decades later, I still remember this conversation.

So dear friend, I am passing it on. PRAY THIS.

“Father, give us a Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that we may know you better. I pray the eyes of our heart may be enlighten in order that we would know the hope to which you have called us.”

If we want to learn the Bible, memorize Scripture, become powerful prayer warriors and disciples of Jesus – we will short change ourselves if think this will come by way of natural, earthy means. This is a supernatural endeavor that requires a SPIRIT of REVELATION. It’s not the eyes of our minds that open, it is the eyes of our heart.

It’s different.

So, mark this verse in your Bible and begin your morning praying Paul’s words. Ask for the eyes of your heart to see clearly.

And for the record, I echo verse 16 in regards to you…. “I have not stopped giving thanks for YOU…. remembering you in my prayers.” Thank you for journeying with me. xoxo
