If you are just now tuning in… we are scribing our way through the book of Ephesians. Grab a pen and write out the scriptures. Reflect on every word, letter, meaning, phrase. What jumps off the page to you?
Spiritual Blessings
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him good pleasure. Ephesians 1:3-5 NLT
Honestly, this Scripture gave me the idea of creating this scribe series – A Journey Through Ephesians. As I wrote Chapter 1:3-6 in my journal I wanted to share so badly with all of you. With everyone I know, actually… GOD LOVES YOU. GOD CHOSE YOU TO BE HOLY. WITHOUT FAULT. Amazing, right?
But the following words are what choked me most over my notepad and pink sharpie….
“God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family…. THIS IS WHAT HE WANTED TO DO, AND IT GAVE HIM GOOD PLEASURE.”
Full stop. Listen. Let’s get personal and let me overshare for a second.

I may have vulnerability hangover after this but I’m sharing anyway: I have MAJOR WOUNDS and TRAUMA surrounding being left out. I could tell you two very sad stories about little Becky that would break your heart – being left out ON PURPOSE. Being rejected by other young girls not realizing how their rejection of me would still haunt me in my 40s. These stories, coupled with a broken home, wrote a narrative in my mind that says “you aren’t worth keeping, Becky. You are fun for a little while but before long, people grow weary of you. There is something wrong with you. So. People leave.”
This narrative sometimes plays on a feedback loop today. Even still, I wait on the other shoe to drop in relationships. Because the “little t truth” I believe is people don’t want me around – for long.
So this scripture rewrites that narrative as quickly as I can read it. Before I can read it actually because HE WROTE IT before He made the World. God decided IN ADVANCE to adopt me as His own through Jesus. WHY? Cue tears: BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT HE WANTED TO DO.
He didn’t feel obligated. Or sorry for me. He didn’t HAVE TO do this. He wanted me.
This “BIG T TRUTH” shuts the lies down real quick like.
So friend. If you have experienced “rejection trauma”, no matter how big or small, let this scripture serve as a healing balm to the wound.
All praise to God… you are blessed with every heavenly blessing because you are united with Christ. God loves you. He chose you to be holy and without fault in His eyes. He decided He wanted you IN ADVANCE. This is what He wanted to do. You are what He wanted. He picks you.
So we praise God for the glorious grace He has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son (that’s us*!!). v 6. *my emphasis obviously, lol
Yes I sure do. I praise you God for this glorious grace. Thank you, Father. We are yours. Just wow.
