A Journey Through Ephesians

If you are human, breathing air and walking with Jesus then I would bet sometimes you go through seasons when you feel a little numbed out spiritually or don’t know what to read in Scripture. Possibly your Bible study group just wrapped up or you may be in a difficult season of life and Scripture just doesn’t feel approachable.

Well. I totally get it. We ALL go through this.

And when I find myself in this place of wandering aimlessly during my quiet time, I always go back to the simplicity of just writing down Scripture. I pick a book of the Bible, grab a pen and notebook and off I go.

As I have been copying down Ephesians and having one eye-opener after another, I thought, why not invite you to join me!

I have never “typed” out Scripture here… and honestly I am not sure it will hit the same as handwritten ink on paper, but let’s try and see. And for the record, these will be short and quite unedited. I am not looking for Zondervan to find us here.

I do encourage you, however, to write with me if you can… Get a fun pen and a fresh notebook. If you have never copied scripture by hand before then – mmmmm, I am excited for you. It’s good.

So, Ephesians. One of my favorite Epistles. Background…. this is a farewell letter written by Paul to the church of Ephesus. He had spent a couple of years there (Acts 19:8-10) and developed deep relationship with its people. The pressing message of Ephesians is an encouragement for God’s people to praise and glorify God – making much of God’s love towards us, His power and infinite wisdom. This of course is a weak description of the depth of what we will find, but gives a peek as we begin.

So let’s do just that. Begin.

Ephesians 1 … Greetings from Paul

This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. I am writing to God’s Holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. v.1-2

Pause: Y’all. Do you see how confident Paul is in his identity? And theirs. Flip this around. What if I started this blog saying…. “This blog is from Becky, chosen as a daughter, the beloved and favored of God and co-heir in Christ. I am writing to all of you – faithful followers of Christ Jesus and blog-readers. May God our Father and Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace on this rainy June day.” Whoa. That is so good. Do you see how important it is to REMIND OURSELVES of these truths!? What if you, as a mom or dad, thought of yourselves this way. Can you see it at the breakfast table?! “Good morning kids, I am setting this breakfast before you as the beloved of God, highly favored and deeply known. You belong to God and are anointed and blessed. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give us grace and peace today. Eat up.”

It makes me giggle to think of kids’ reactions but man, I like this.

Oh Father, give us a deep sense of our IDENTITY IN YOU.

Take a moment right now and reflect on who you are to him. Chosen by God. His holy people. A faithful follower. Known. Seen. Deeply loved. His favor rests on you. He delights in you. He is well pleased with you. He wants to be with you…. near to you. Just think on this and thank Him. What an inexpressible joy to be His child. mmmmm.

Welp. Let’s stop there for now. LOL. I see this make take a while. Two verses down and 153 to go 🙂

Be blessed today.
