The Word we want…

Happy winter, dear friends.

I know it has been a minute since I have been on here. Just know that I think of this space so often.

Writing on the blog is always best when it feels invitational from the Lord. When I find myself writing out of duty it becomes rigid and honestly quite un-spirit-filled. Who wants to read that? There is plenty of noise in our world without me popping on here to unpack something for the sake of posting.

So. As I continue to walk with Jesus in this broken and beautiful world, one thing I know more truly everyday is … God’s Word is life. It is living. It is full of power.

And it is simple.

I am an expert at over-complicating everything. Including my discipleship to Jesus.

During a morning quiet time, I might have ten books around me, an open journal, candles lit, a cup of coffee, worship music gently playing in the background and a blanket on my lap… but receive absolutely NOTHING from the Lord.

Sadly, some days I can spend an entire hour in that scenario and stand up more empty and over-whelmed then before I sat down.

And I realize the most meaningful moments with Jesus are typically the more simple ones.

It just takes ONE Rhema, LIVING, Word to change the course of my day.

And this Word, sweet friends, is the WORD we want.

God please, give us the Word that YOU are speaking to our heart.

It is January – the season of Bible Plans, checklists, fresh journals and reading calendars. And all of this is AMAZING. Absolutely amazing.

I just want to encourage you to keep tabs on feelings of “being behind” or “not doing enough” or “catching up.” Emotions like these often are followed by a sense of shame and lack.

Remember….Jesus invited people to follow Him and learn the way of His easy yoke.

Easy.

Simple.

So, as I write on January 21st, if you are already feeling behind in your spiritual growth goals, can I just be the first to say… it’s ok.

Deep breath.

Maybe today we set aside our agendas and just open the Scripture and let it do what ONLY it can.

And as we listen, with open hearts, I pray our souls can receive a living, life-giving Word from the God who STILL speaks.
